Parliament speaker hosts UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia
Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ara Babloyan on Monday hosted Bradley Busetto, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Armenia.
The meeting was also attended by Vice Speaker Arpine Hovhannisyan and the National Assembly Chief of Staff, Secretary General Ara Saghatelyan, the parliament’s press service reported.
Welcoming Bradley Busetto in the parliament, Ara Babloyan highlighted the effective cooperation existing between the Armenian National Assembly and the UNDP.
He stressed the importance of the constitutional amendments leading to a transition to the parliamentary system of governance, the legislative reforms to be made and the expansion of the parliamentary oversight functions.
Touching upon the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative being implemented by the UN, the head of the parliament emphasized the National Assembly’s participation in those works.
Highly appreciating the continuing cooperation with the UNICEF, Ara Babloyan expressed hope that the cooperation between the Armenian parliament and the UNDP will be continuous and more effective in the future.
Mr. Busetto noted that the UNDP aims at raising the efficiency of the activities of the Armenian National Assembly’s from the legislative and oversight viewpoints. He also talked about the capacity building of the National Assembly, the transparency of the implementation of the parliament’s key functions, accountability and participation of the civil society in the parliamentary processes.
