Speaker Babloyan: “Our priority is the security of our country and the people’s welfare”
Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ara Babloyan on Tuesday received the delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Parliament (Riksdag) of Sweden Björn Söder, the parliament’s press service told Panorama.am.
Welcoming the guests, Ara Babloyan highlighted the multilayer and mutually beneficial cooperation with Sweden, as well as the intensification of inter-parliamentary contacts, which is further contributed by the coordinated work of the parliamentary friendship groups and the mutual visits of the lawmakers.
According to the Armenian official, Sweden is considered one of the exemplary countries in terms of democracy and human rights. In this context Speaker Babloyan highly appreciated Sweden’s support to the democratic processes in Armenia and reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue and deepen the constructive dialogue.
Introducing the domestic political developments in Armenia, he stated that the recent events serve as an evidence of the established democracy in Armenia, which is an irreversible truth. “Our priority is the security of our country and the people’s welfare,” Babloyan said.
Touching upon the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between Armenia and the European Union, Speaker Babloyan noted that it opens a new page in the history of bilateral relations. He expressed hope that the Swedish Parliament would ratify the document within the shortest period possible.
Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Björn Söder in his turn attached importance to the expansion of bilateral ties and intensification of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Speaking about the domestic political developments in Armenia, the Swedish official said that the manifestations of democracy in Armenia promoted the rise of the county’s international rating. He assured that from now on Sweden will support Armenia in its initiatives.
