Georgian PM appoints new governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti region
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze appointed today Besik Amirkhanashvili as the new governor of the mostly Armenian populated Samtskhe-Javakheti region in southern Georgia.
As Georgia Today reported, born in 1985, Amirkhanashvili graduated from Tbilisi State University and served as the deputy minister to the Minister of Interior of Georgia in 2016-2017.
The appointment came in the midst of a government reshuffle when Bakhtadze first took office, the governors of Shida Kartli, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti were dismissed from their positions on July 26.
“Due to the goals our government has set, new approaches are needed in terms of coordination with the management in the regions and the central government," Bakhtadze said earlier, announcing the dismissals.
