The spouse of Armenian PM Anna Hakobyan visited Artsakh on Sunday with a group of Russian women, representing public, media and culture sectors.   The visit was organized in the scope of “Women for peace” campaign, initiated by Anna Hakobyan. The campaign has the main mission to contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, establish peace for the sake of preserving the young lives standing at both sides of the border.

The group comprised scriptwriter, translator Lyudmila Ulitskaya, the leader of Russia’s Women’s Dialogue party Yelena Semerikova, master of speed skating, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Svetlana Zhurova, public figure Anna Federmeser, journalist, film documentarist Yekaterina Gordeeva, producer Elina Arzumanova, and others.

During the trip, the group visited the Artsakh frontline and conveyed a message of peace to the parties and mediators of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict “to spare the lives of the 18-20 year old Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers on both sides of the border, to not make their parents and children sorrowful, o play with the fates of hundreds of families, to reject the military solution of the conflict and seek the conflict settlement exclusively through peaceful means.’

Anna Hakobyan, who read the message, also called on Azerbaijani women and mothers to join the initiative and deliver the same message to the decision makers, reminding of the mission of the campaign which is not about the subject-matter of the conflict but solely about saving human lives. 

Hakobyan next announced about the idea of presenting ornaments to all members of the initiative made of melted bullets. In her words, the ornaments are prepared in Gyumri by a craftsman who is specialized in making jewelry from melted bullets, adding the jewelry will become the symbol of the “Women for Peace” campaign.

"This means that the more women join the campaign, the more bullets will disappear from the world, the more bullets will lose their initial designation and become an ornament. Through we will save more many lives," Hakobyan stated.
