Armenia’s acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hopes that the government will carry out more intensive and effective work during the pre-election period in the country.

“In fact, we are preparing for snap parliamentary elections, and, understandably, the political situation is having a certain impact on the work and the moods,” Pashinyan said at today’s Cabinet meeting.

He expressed hope that the government will not only remain committed to its workstyle, but also will work more intensively and effectively in that period.

“Yes, we are entering a pre-election phase, but, on the other hand, this time should be used effectively to bring our conduct to new level,” he said. “Taking advantage of the fact that the public administration system should not be involved in pre-election processes, as it a very good period of time to work.”

He also expressed hope the non-politicized sector of the government and public administration system will use the period for constructive purposes.

Pashinyan stepped down as prime minister on Tuesday to clear way for early parliamentary elections.

Under the Armenian law, the National Assembly can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to elect his or her replacement within two weeks.         

The elections are expected to be held in early December.
