The construction works of the new building of Yerevan Circus have been going on for more than five years. Every time a set deadline expires but the new circus keeps being built. 

Panorama.am correspondent has talked to Yerevan Circus Artistic Director, Professor Sos Petrosyan to find out when the new building will eventually open its doors.

The director said that interior finishing works are underway in the new facility, adding the works will intensify soon.

He says the constructors do their best to finish the works as soon as possible given the fact Yerevan residents are eager to see Yerevan Circus open.

“So, we have to wait a little more,” he said, expressing hope that the new facility will open in one year.

The circus director said that while the new building is under construction the artists keep touring abroad, meantime organizing charity performances in Armenia’s villages and Artsakh military units.

“I hope we will welcome next New Year already in our circus,” Petrosyan said.

The old Yerevan Circus was demolished in 2012 after experts arrived at the conclusion about inexpediency of its reconstruction

The new circus building has been designed by architect Vahagn Vermishyan. It is set to fully comply with the international standards, increasing the number of seats to 2,000 from the previous 1,560.

The new circus will be six meters higher and equipped with modern stage technique.
