New Armenian parliament continues work, set to elect third deputy speaker
The new Armenian National Assembly kicked off its second sitting on Tuesday morning to debate the issue of the third deputy speaker.
At the beginning of the sitting, the two MPs nominated for the position by Prosperous Armenia Party and Bright Armenia – Vahe Enfiajyan and Mane Tandilyan – were introduced to the lawmakers.
The parliament is set to elect the third deputy parliament speaker in a secret vote later today.
The Armenian constitution reserves the third post of deputy speaker for a parliamentary opposition representative.
During Monday’s inaugural session, lawmakers confirmed Ararat Mirzoyan as Speaker.
Forming standing committees and electing their heads are on the agenda of today’s sitting.
Also, the MPs-elect will discuss the issue of approving the government program and the bill proposing changes in the government’s structure.
The new parliament is comprised of 132 lawmakers. The My Step bloc led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has received 88 mandates. Prosperous Armenia Party and Bright Armenia have 26 and 18 seats, respectively.
