Current talks around Nagorno Karabakh being held on no concrete proposals - MFA spokeswoman
The current Nagorno Karabakh negotiations are not held around any concrete proposals and the discussions are mostly focused on familiarizing with and clarifying the approaches of the parties, Anna Naghdalyan, Spokeswoman at Armenia’s Foreign Ministry has said, commenting on the recent statement by Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov.
To remind, in his comments following the Moscow trilateral meeting Mammadyarov stated that the Armenian, Azerbaijani FMs had discussed the 2016 proposals presented by the Russian side.
“Following the meeting a joint statement of the participating sides came that summed up all the topics discussed at the meeting. Joint statements serve the purpose of reflecting formulations agreed among all sides. Statements out of the agreed texts do not contribute to the strengthening of the mutual trust, especially if those are imaginary and have no touch with reality,” Naghdalyan said, according to the released statement by the MFA press department.
The Armenian diplomat next declined to confirm another statement by Mammadyarov about the proposal by the American side to hold another round of negotiations in Washington.
“Since the issue is in the phase of discussions, we should refrain from one-sided statements and the practice of public arrangement of the negotiations. Furthermore, prior announcement about a planned meeting in one of the Co-Chairing countries is disrespectful toward the sides of the process and for the Co-Chairing in question,” the MFA spokeswoman said, adding the desire to become the first to voice about arrangements yet to be finalized does not contribute to formation of the working atmosphere based on mutual confidence.
