PM’s spokesperson says no grounds for conducting new audit of Amulsar mine

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sees no reason for Lidian Armenia to stop operation of Amulsar gold mine following the consultation with members of Jermuk community and environmentalists held on Monday. As the press secretary to PM Vladimir Karapetyan told reporters, Pashinyan said the aforementioned following the two-hour long meeting held at PM’s Baghramyan 26 residency.
Asked for the possibility of a new audit considering the environmentalist doubt the conclusions of the recent audit and claim the project would cause a serious danger to the environment, Karapetyan said there was no need for it.

To  note, since early morning dozens of environmentalists and Jermuk residents have been holding a protest against the possible exploitation of the gold mine. Around 50 cars arrived from Jermuk in an organized car race to join the protest action.

To remind, the series of protests came after Armenia’s Investigative Committee on Wednesday published the results of an audit conducted by Earth Link & Advanced Resources Development on the Amulsar gold mine project, concluding that the exploitation of the gold mine does not cause any significant danger to the environment and there are no grounds for criminal proceedings against the company.
