Cabinet discusses the safety of Armenians in Syria – Armen Grigoryan
The Cabinet held a closed door session on Thursday where among topics discussed were the situation in Syria, the Secretary of Armenia's Security Council Armen Grigoryan told reporters. In Grigoryan’s words, the government keeps particular focus on Syrian settlements with Armenian population.
“We have the instruction to discuss and assess how we can ensure the safety of Armenians living in Syria and what kind of assistance we could provide. The Office of the Security Council will later outline its actions. We are currently in a preparatory phase,” Grigoryan said.
Asked whether the Armenian group conducting a humanitarian mission in Syria is not under risk, Grigoryan said the overall developments in Syria are worrying, yet no serious challenges are seen at present. “The group which is in Syria for a humanitarian mission is in safety. The simple fact that it is a humanitarian mission envisages it can in no way be involved in military operations,” Grigoryan added.
