Yerevan to host world premiere of Vache Sharafyan's ‘Requiem for the Desert’
The world premiere of Armenian composer Vache Sharafyan's “Requiem for the Desert” will take place at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan on 18 October on the sidelines of the 13th Yerevan International Music Festival.
The piece is based on Armenian-American poetess Sona Van’s poem “Libretto for the Desert” and traditional texts of requiem, ANM Media reported.
The “Requiem for the Desert” will be performed by the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra led by its artistic director and principal conductor Eduard Topchjan, Hover Chamber Choir headed by its artistic director and conductor Sona Hovhannisyan, Artsvik Demurchyan and Narine Ananikyan under the baton of conductor Premil Petrovic from Serbia.
Pianist Hayk Melikyan and violinist Anushik Nikoghosyan are set to perform works by Schnittke, Schumann and Komitas during the first part of the concert.
