Armenian Center for American Studies reveals Senator Perdue’s ties with Turkish lobbyists

The Armenian Center for American Studies has unveiled Senator David Perdue’s ties with Turkish lobbyists.

Perdue was the second US senator to block a Senate vote on a resolution recognizing the 1915 Armenian Genocide on 21 November, arguing that its passage during a sensitive period "would undermine the administration's commitment to overcoming real challenges in our bilateral relationship with Turkey".

Earlier on 13 November Senator Lindsey Graham had blocked the passage of the genocide bill in the Senate, hours after taking part in a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The resolution passed the House of Representatives in a 405-11 vote on 29 October.

In a post on Facebook, the Armenian Center for American Studies said hat David Perdue is one of Trump's most loyal senators and the first congressional candidate to directly receive support from the Trump-backed fundraising committee.

According to the center, the senator also has ties with Turkish lobbyists. The Armenian Center for American Studies presented only those financing facts which have clear evidence.

In particular, the senator actively received funds from the National Turkey Federation Political Action Committee (TURPAC). The funds totaling to $6,500 were provided in three years – $1,500 in 2015, $3,500 in 2017 and $1,500 in 2018.

Moreover, in 2016 lobbyists of Greenberg Traurig LLP hired by the Turkish government contacted David Perdue over US-Turkey relations.
