Yerevan City Council member takes baby to work
A member of the My Step faction, Gayane Vardanyan brought her infant child to work at the Yerevan City Council on Friday.
When Gayane Vardanyan entered the sessions hall, the other City Council members and Mayor Hayk Marutyan began to applaud her.
The baby is the councilwoman’s second child.
There have been numerous cases of taking babies to work in the world practice. Some of the cases received positive while others negative reactions.
On 8 August 2019 Kenyan lawmaker Zuleikha Hassan was kicked out of the parliamentary chamber for bringing her infant daughter in with her. She explained that she had to take her baby with her to work at the National Assembly after an emergency had left her without child care and she had had no other choice, but the parliament did not appreciate her move.
Days later on 22 August a similar incident took place in the parliament of New Zealand, but in this case, the presence of the child only received a positive reaction.
The speaker of New Zealand's parliament, Trevor Mallard cradled MP Tāmati Coffey's baby while he presided over a debate in the House of Representatives.
Now Armenia has committed to a practice of accepting a baby’s entry into a state structure only with applauses and smiles.
