Armenian FM holds phone call with Iranian counterpart
At the initiative of the Armenian side, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan held on Wednesday a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
Mnatsakanyan congratulated his Iranian counterpart on Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, conveying Armenian people’s solidarity and support to the good people of Iran in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
Presenting the efforts of the Armenian government to prevent further spread of the virus, the FM attached importance to the international cooperation in the fight against the epidemic, particularly the coordination of actions between neighboring countries.
In this context, both sides underscored the close cooperation between the various departments of Armenia and Iran in combating coronavirus and the continuous exchange of experience in the fight against the pandemic.
During the telephone conversation, the Armenian FM highlighted the UN chief’s appeal for global ceasefire in all corners of the world and revision of sanctions, stressing that the fight against the pandemic should become a chance for nations' reconciliation and global solidarity.
The Armenian and Iranian foreign ministers emphasized their readiness to take steps to preserve the dynamics of the bilateral agenda, promote trade turnover in the current situation, as well as address issues concerning the repatriation of citizens to both countries.
