The situation with the coronavirus pandemic is quite serious in Armenia, as the country is dealing with a second wave of the infection, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

He stated that they basically know the way of reducing the coronavirus infections to zero. “As a result of long consultations and discussions with specialists, we have come to the following conclusion: in order to bring down our coronavirus figures to zero, we need to follow three simple rules –  wear a face mask, regularly disinfect or wash hands and keep social distancing,” Pashinyan stressed.

According to the prime minister, the fresh coronavirus figures show that, unfortunately, people have not yet learned how to live parallel to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Obviously, coronavirus will be there for at least one year, and we will constantly have contact not only with the local, but also with the global coronavirus situation. For example, we return many of our compatriots from abroad, and some of them have been and will continue to be infected with coronavirus,” he said.

“If we fail to prevent the spread of coronavirus through public behavior, we will face such a situation over and over again. Our task is to ensure the observance of the rules by two methods: public communication by raising awareness of how to combat coronavirus and the administrative tools,” he added.

Pashinyan said the administrative coercion methods will be further tightened to have all citizens comply with safety rules.
