Putin says 'balance of interests’ necessary for settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

A balance of interests between Azerbaijan and Armenia must be found in order to iron out the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the ‘Russia Calling’ VTB Capital Investment Forum on Thursday, according to TASS report.

"What is or where is this long-term settlement? [It is] in finding a balance of interests that would suit both sides - the Azerbaijani people who we have unwavering respect for, as well as the interests of the Armenian people," the president said, as quoted y the source.

In the words of the Russian president, the decades-long conflict hinders an efficient development of the two sides, he added. An end must be put to hostilities and casualties at the first stage, the parties must sit down to the negotiating table and find a consensus and a balance of interests based on proposals from the OSCE Minsk Group.
