Artsakh National Assembly Speaker Artur Tovmasyan on Tuesday met with a group of lecturers and students of the Artsakh State University (ArSU), the press service of the parliament reported.

Welcoming the parliament speaker, ArSU Rector Armen Sargsyan noted that by the decision of the Academic Council, the program “Artsakh: Present and Future” was launched at the university, with the parliament speaker being the first guest as part of the program.

Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the 23 students of ArSU, who were killed in the bloody war in autumn 2020. 

Thanking for the invitation and stressing the importance of meetings in such a format, Tovmasyan presented the pre-war and post-war activities of the National Assembly of the 7th convocation, in particular reflecting on the adoption of new draft laws in the National Assembly.

The official highly appreciated the scientific and educational activities of the Artsakh university, cooperation between the National Assembly and the ArSU, welcoming the reaction of university students to the adoption of a bill proposing amendments to the law “On Language”.

The meeting continued in the format of questions and answers. The university students' questions concerned the future status of Artsakh, fate of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs), security and territorial integrity of the country, ways to handle the existing challenges, as well as the housing problems of the former and current forcibly displaced persons.

“Artsakh must be safe, the issue of its status and the resumption of the negotiation process are urgent. Artsakh cannot exist without status. Separation from Azerbaijan will be the only way for salvation. We will definitely achieve success through unity,” Tovmasyan said in his speech.

The National Assembly speaker was awarded the 50th anniversary commemorative medal of ArSU.

The meeting was held in a warm atmosphere.
