Lawyer: Syunik governor’s decisions on financial assistance ‘sharply increased’ in election period
The number of the decisions on financial assistance signed by the governor of Armenia’s Syunik Province “sharply increased” in the election period, according to lawyer Robert Hayrapetyan, a member of the opposition Armenia bloc.
“In recent days, the decisions on the provision of financial assistance by the heads of Syunik communities have become the basis for law enforcement agencies to initiate criminal cases, and they are in a hurry to extort testimony from citizens against the heads of communities, trying to present the financial support allocated on the basis of applications submitted to the local administrations as “bribery”.
“But subservient law enforcement officers have deliberately forgotten the governors’ decisions on financial aid so as not to fall into their trap,” the lawyer wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“Thus, I call the attention of the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigative Committee to the decisions published below on the provision of monetary assistance by the governor of Syunik, and I urge them to immediately launch a criminal case in line with the same logic,” Hayrapetyan said, sharing copies of a number of decisions made by the Syunik governor.
“In addition, I would like to note that during the election period, in particular, from May to June, the number of decisions of the Syunik governor on the provision of financial assistance increased sharply.
“Please also ask the governor why he deliberately did not publish the appendices to the decisions, where the names of citizens who received financial assistance are disclosed, which, by the way, is mandatory,” he said.
