There is very little time left to stop Artsakh’s final surrender to Azerbaijan and the split of Armenia, military expert Karen Vrtanesyan said on Monday, referring to the statement following a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Council President Charles Michel and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Brussels on Sunday.

“The leaders agreed on the need to proceed with unblocking the transport links. They agreed on the principles governing transit between western Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, and between different parts of Armenia via Azerbaijan, as well as international transport through communications infrastructure of both countries,” the statement said in part.

“Obviously, there is very little time left to stop the final surrender of Artsakh and the division of Armenia. Yes, the handover of the former "enclaves" of Soviet Azerbaijan would lead to the dismemberment of Armenia,” the expert wrote on Facebook.

“By "very little time", I mean that it is a matter of weeks,” Vrtanesyan said, adding even the opposition holding daily protests against Pashinyan “does not fully realize what kind of disasters” the peace treaty with Azerbaijan would bring to the Armenian people.

“It would result not just in the weakening of Armenia's sovereignty, but in the annihilation of Armenia as an Armenian-populated territory,” he stated.
