Armenia has been erroneously listed among the participants of an upcoming U.S.-led military exercise in Europe, the U.S. Department of Defense told the VOA Armenian Service on Friday.

Armenia on Thursday appeared on a list of 26 countries participating in the Defender 23 multinational military exercise set to take place from 22 April to 23 June. A few hours later, Armenia was removed from the list.

In response to a VOA request to comment, the Department of Defense said that Armenia “has never participated in the Defender 23 exercise and should not have been listed among its participants.”

In addition to the United States, troops from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom will all take part in Defender 23, the Pentagon said.

Armenia’s Defense Ministry spokesperson told Armenpress state news agency on Friday that the country “is planning to participate in two other military exercises organized by the US army command in Europe – KFOR (Kosovo Force) and Saber Junction military exercises”.
