Poll reveals what Armenians think about Turkey's flight ban
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday that Ankara had shut its airspace to Armenian flights heading to a third destination in response to the unveiling of a monument in Yerevan last week.
The monument pays tribute to participants of Operation Nemesis, a 1920s program of assassinations of Ottoman Turkish perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide.
Panorama.am on Friday conducted a poll among Yerevan residents regarding the Turkish ban and Armenia’s possible response to it.
"It's a good idea, they should have installed a Nemesis monument long ago. We shouldn't be so afraid of the Turks, they constantly threaten us, the Armenians have to be stronger. It's so well done," said one of the respondents.
"Closing the airspace is just monkeying around," another stated.
Many of those polled believe that it is for the Armenian government to take appropriate steps.
"It's for the government to take measures, not the people. Planes are taking bypass routes to get here. Efforts are necessary to get it [the airspace] reopened,” a woman said.
A respondent said “you have to think long and hard before taking steps.”
“I believe the leadership needs to get their bearings and not to make decisions right away to avoid retaliation later," he stated.
“We are sick of these relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. The more you give in, the more they demand, someday they will get to Yerevan,” another respondent said.
