MP accuses pro-government colleague of 'contempt' for judicial system
Independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan has accused her pro-government colleague Lena Nazaryan of disrespecting the country’s judicial system after her failure to comply with a court order.
A court in Yerevan has ordered Nazaryan, an MP from Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, to publicly apologize to Tovmasyan for an offensive remark she made at a parliament session back in June 2021, which she has not fulfilled to date.
At a news conference on Friday, Tovmasyan deplored the legal "impunity" in the country, pointing to the failure of several other pro-government MPs to fulfil court orders, including Arsen Torosyan and Artur Hovhannisyan.
“In other words, these people generally refuse to comply with court orders, which is nothing but impunity. We can say that government representatives, in this case Lena Nazaryan, show the biggest contempt for the judicial system," Tovmasyan added.
