Russia’s Rublev accuses Wimbledon of ‘complete discrimination’ over ban

Wimbledon has been warned it could face legal action from the Belarusian Tennis Federation after it was accused of acting illegally by banning Russian and Belarusian players from this year’s championships. The All England Club’s decision, which was prompted by the invasion of Ukraine and fears of the optics of the Duchess of Cambridge having to present a trophy to a player from Russia or Belarus, was condemned by the Russian world No 8, Andrey Rublev, who called it “complete discrimination”.

Madonna lists her sprawling Hidden Hills estate for a whopping $25.9 million

Madonna has listed her Hidden Hills home, which she purchased from The Weeknd for a reported $19.3 million in April 2021. According to the WSJ, the 62-year-old singer has listed her property for a whopping $25.995 million with Trevor Wright of the Beverly Hills Estates. The 12,000-square-foot main house and two-bedroom guesthouse sit on nearly three acres of land in celeb-loved Hidden Hills.

Kenya's former president Kibaki dies at 90

Mwai Kibaki, who served as Kenya's third president from 2003 to 2013, has died aged 90, President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Friday. Kibaki is credited with reviving Kenya's then ailing economy, but his tenure was marred by deadly violence that erupted following his disputed re-election in December 2007. Kenyatta ordered a mourning period to honour Kibaki, during which flags will be flown at half-mast.

Google doodle marks Earth Day 2022 with stark images of climate crisis

Google is marking Earth Day with time-lapse satellite images showing melting glaciers, retreating snow cover, deforestation and coral bleaching to remind its users about humanity’s impact on the climate and environment. The 2022 Earth Day Google doodle includes four Gifs created from satellite imagery and photographs from The Ocean Agency that will rotate throughout the day. They show glacial retreat at the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania between December 1986 and 2020 and glacial melt in Sermersooq, Greenland, between December 2000 and 2020.

New clashes at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque compound

New clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian protesters broke out on Friday at the flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem. The Israeli police stormed the compound and fired teargas and rubber-tipped bullets at stone-throwing Palestinian youths, said an AFP photographer on the scene. At around 4:00 am (0100 GMT), Palestinians began hurling stones towards the Western Wall, considered the holiest site where Jews can pray, the police said.

North and South Korean leaders in rare exchange of letters

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un exchanged friendly letters with outgoing South Korean President Moon Jae-in this week, in what North Korean state media described as a rare moment of positive news for both countries. Moon sent Kim a letter earlier this week and said he would continue to work towards Korean unification after his retirement. Kim, in return, thanked Moon for his work on behalf of the “great cause of the nation,” the news report said.

Longest Covid infection lasted more than 16 months, tests show

UK doctors believe they have documented the longest Covid infection on record - a patient they treated who had detectable levels of the virus for more than 16 months, or 505 days, in total. The unnamed individual had other underlying medical conditions and sadly died in hospital in 2021.

Erik ten Hag: Manchester United appoint Ajax coach as next manager

The Dutchman, 52, will take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of this season on a three-year deal which can be extended by a year. Rangnick, who replaced the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, is set to move into a consultancy role. Ten Hag will become United's fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Vin Diesel reveals title of ‘Fast & Furious 10,’ announces start of production
