Mourinho explains what Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs to get back into Manchester United team
Jose Mourinho says that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is edging close to a Manchester United comeback.
It was expected that the £26m Armenian midfielder bought from Borussia Dortmund in the summer would be in United's 18-strong squad to play Fenerbahce. But Mkhitaryan didn't even make the bench. Manchester Evening News reports.
Mkhitaryan has not played since a dreadful derby match against City when he was subbed at half time and has since been recovering from a thigh injury.
“He has to work more to get the intensity and fitness to play at a high level,” said the Reds' boss after United's 4-1 Old Trafford win.
“To have him on the bench and give him 15 or 20 minutes like I did to Memphis, I think it is much better for him to work yesterday much harder and he did today in a specific session. He has to wait for his chance but he is ready very soon.”
