Artsakh Ombudsman underscores need for strategy of human rights of the Artsakh Republic
Human Rights Defender of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic Ruben Melikyan presented the 2016 annual report on the activities of the Ombudsman’s Office and the human rights state in the country at the plenary session of the country’s Parliament.
As the Ombudsman’s Office told Panorama.am, R. Melikyan detailed on the statistics of the applications and touched upon the strategic directions of the activities of the Ombudsman’s Office, including raising the legal culture among the public, strengthening dialogue with the civil society and issues of guaranteeing human rights in penitentiaries.
The Ombudsman especially underscored the need to develop, adopt and operate a strategy of human rights of the Artsakh Republic.
R. Melikyan also noted that he expects the assistance of the Diaspora structures and the human rights society in working out the strategy.
