Mechanisms for protection of people's basic rights never existed in Azerbaijan
The works of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly are underway in New York. November 3 discussions took place over the “Right of People to Self-Determination”. Delegations of more than forty countries and representatives of international organizations delivered speeches which reaffirms the value and significance of this important principle.
Armenia, on behalf of its permanent representative to the UN, Karen Nazaryan, also participated in the discussions, MFA informed. The RA ambassador noted that the violation of that right brings to tragic consequences, wars and distractions. In Artsakh the Armenian people have fought for the right of freedom combating the war levied against it. People of Nagorno-Karabakh, implementing the right of people to self-determination, made the choice in favor of their sovereignty using all the legal mechanisms for reaching that goal. He also rated high the role of the UN and the mandate for guaranteeing the unrestricted and permanent implementation of the right to self-determination.
Additional discussions took place between the delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Armenian representative said it is ridiculous that Azerbaijan is delivering a speech over this point of the agenda, at the same time making attempts to ignore the self-determination right of the Artsakh Armenians. “The mechanisms of protection of basic rights of people never existed in Azerbaijan, they were replaced by self-willing and illegal acts.
The international community witnessed that as a result of continuing xenophobia and intolerance in a number of Azerbaijani towns pogroms and tortures against Armenians were organized, shocking the whole world with its brutality and barbarism. This was Azerbaijan’s response to Nagorno Karabakh when the latter implemented its right to self-determination. The situation existing in the region is the result of ethnic cleansing, murders against the NK people committed by Azerbaijani authorities and finally the military aggression and war,” he said.
