Bruno Boyer: Armenian Genocide has a significant place in French curricula
In the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial a Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide was held in Yerevan on 22 – 23 April. The forum featured over 600 participants from more than 50 countries, among them scholars, experts, high-ranking officials, parliamentarians, clerics and others who discussed various aspects of genocide.
Nvard Chalikyan from Panorama.am has conducted a series of interviews with the international guests.
Below we present to your attention interview with Bruno Boyer, Head of International Relations at Holocaust Memorial in Paris (Memorial de la Shoah).
The Memorial particularly deals with the remembrance of Holocaust and with the inclusion of genocide studies in education.
Mr. Boyer says that from 2005 the Memorial has adopted a policy of dealing not only with the Holocaust but also with the Armenian and the Tutsi Genocides (the three main genocides of the 20th century) in order to promote a comparative approach in this field.
According to Mr. Boyer the studies of these three genocides are included in history lessons from early years of school in France and nowadays have a very significant place in the school curricula.
Memorial de la Shoah is going to cooperate with the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute in Yerevan in terms of teacher training and genocide education.
