Aram Khachaturian International Competition launches today, June 6
“Aram Khachaturian International Competition has a high reputation. Through the years it has expanded its geography and the performance criteria,” said Deputy Minister of Culture of Armenia, Artur Poghosyan during a press conference.
The 12th Aram Khachaturian International Competition will be held in Yerevan from June 6 to 14, 2016. Competition in the category of "Conducting" aims at representing and supporting the promotion of young conductors. Aram Khachaturian International Competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions. 12 young conductors from Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Poland, Croatia, South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Singapore, Russia have been chosen from 57 applicants.
The Deputy Minister of Culture noted that Aram Khachaturian International Competition is a long-awaited event not only in Armenia but also in the whole world. “It is one of our best events on professional level”.
According to the Competition Board Chairman, Armen Smbatyan there is a noticeable increase in the interest level towards the competition.
“According to our estimations, 400 musicians, pianists, violinists, cellists have studied Khachaturian’s concerts and perform in the whole world. It’s one of our biggest achievements,” he said.
“Aram Khachaturian Competition” cultural foundation executive director, Anna Ter-Hovakimyan said that their biggest achievement is that the competition has joined the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 2013. She also added that the Federation will hold their 60th summit in Yerevan. “Representatives of the most prestigious competitions will arrive in Armenia and get to know to our culture”.
Yuri Davtyan (RA National Artist), Mark Hildrew (Great Britain), David Whelton (Great Britain), Michalis Economou (Greece), Thomas Yaksic (Brazil/Chile), Constantine Orbelian (USA) and Vag Papian (Israel/Armenia) are among the Jury of the competition.
The committee will award cash reward in AMD equal to 10,000 USD for the 1st Prize.After resuming the results of the 1st round, there will be organized a meeting-discussion with jury members and with those participants who haven't passed to the 2nd round. Jury members will give a speech with brief description of each participant's performance. By the end of the 2nd round all the jury members will submit written reviews concerning each and every performance of this round. The project is being implemented thanks to joint efforts of RA Ministry of Culture, “Aram Khachaturian-competition” Cultural Foundation and Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. It is held under the high patronage of First Lady Mrs. Rita Sargsyan, who is honorary president of the Board of Trustees of the competition.
