Armenian cultural heritage is seen as an integral part of the European heritage, Minister of Culture says
Presentation of the archaeological site Ereruyk and the village of Anipemza, Armenia in Europa Nostra “The 7 Most Endangered” programme proves that Armenian historical and cultural heritage is viewed as an integral part of European heritage. The implementation of such programmes is crucial for a country with such rich cultural heritage as Armenia, Minister of Culture of Armenia, Hasmik Poghosyan said during the meeting with Europa Nostra Organization and representatives of European Investment Bank Institute.
According to Ministry of Culture, the experts have arrived in Armenia on the occasion of “Ereuyk-Anipemza” programme launch.
According the Minister, the programme should be carried out in several directions: restoration of the monument, development of relevant infrastructure and tourism, implementation of sub-programmes directed at the needs of the public.
Poghosyan expressed willingness to support the work of the experts and then presented the policies of Armenia directed at preservation and popularization of the country’s cultural heritage, as well as priorities and achievements in the field.
The Minister of Culture highlighted the cooperation with international organizations in this field, noting that Armenia is interested and willing to expand the cooperation.
Hasmik Poghosyan also informed that the archaeological site of the city of Dvin (1995), Ereruyk basilica (1995), Noravank and Amaghu upper valley (1996), Tatev and Anapat monastic complexes and the adjacent areas of Vorotan valley (1995) are presented in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
In their turn, guests informed that their mission is aimed at the restoration of the monument as well as the possible development of its infrastructure, which in turn will promote tourism and boost community life in Armenia.
To remind, archaeological site Ereruyk and the village of Anipemza, Armenia were included in Europa Nostra “The 7 Most Endangered” programme. The list was earlier issued by the Europa Nostra organization and the European Investment Bank Institute (EIBI) at a public event in Venice on March 16, 2016.
