Number of RA citizens with dual citizenship amounts to 96 thousand
Currently the data available in the police archive shows that the number of dual citizens in Armenia amounts to 95.839. During the NA session Deputy Police Chief Vardan Yeghiazaryan noted about this in response to MP Mikael Melkumyan’s question regarding the number of dual citizens in Armenia.
He mentioned as of August 20 the figure was 94.050, which means that the number of dual citizens have increased by 1500. Meanwhile Deputy Police Chief stated that this is a season-based dynamics.
MP Gagaik Jhangiryan expressed concerns regarding the fact that as a sovereign state Armenia has no instruments to check out the number of those Armenians who also hold citizenship of other countries.
“I am convinced the actual figure of dual citizens amounts to several hundred thousand. There is an issue of national security. The government should consider updating the figure of such citizens,” G. Jhangiryan noted.
Vardan Yeghiazaryan stated that he could not come up with any methods to tackle the issue at that time but added that they would work on it.
Deputy Police Chief named Russia the country where the greatest number of Armenians holding dual-citizenship live.
