The war in Karabakh still remains a possibility, political scientist insists
“The latest statement by the Heads of Delegation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries differs from the previous ones. This time the call uses harsher wording, obviously with no mention of the addressee though, that is conditioned with specifics of diplomacy,” political scientist Sergey Minasyan told a press conference on Monday.
However, Minasyan says, certain highlights in the statement indicate to the party that obviously is supposed to be targeted. “The initiator of the April escalation, references to the victims among the civilian population and cases of torture, stressing the need for mandate expansion of the special representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, establishing confidence building measures on the Line of Contact are exclusively linked to Azerbaijan,” Minasyan noted, adding diplomatic process remains a vital element for maintaining stability on the Line of Contact and the NK conflict in general.
“Wrapping up the year, we may state that expectations from the settlement process, including the negative one, didn’t came true. For the feasible future we may see neither positive, nor negative changes in the settlement process,” added Minasyan, predicting no major shifts in the military political reality on the ground, yet with a possibility of a war still there.
“Minor escalations, opportunistic attempts initiated by Azerbaijan are regretfully not ruled out,” said Minasyan.
