Iranian media’s assessments on Ilham Aliyev's promise and real steps
“Six months have passed since the agreement reached between Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents, however Azerbaijan has failed to set visa-free regime for the Iranian citizens,” an article published in MEHR Iranian news agency reads.
As the Iranian source reports, within the visit paid to Baku by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in 2016, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced during the joint press conference with H. Rouhani that from that moment the citizens of Iran and Azerbaijan could travel to each other’s states without a visa.
In an interview with MEHR agency, Representative of the Committee on Tourism Affairs of Iran in Baku Nasrin Javidfar has turned to the above-mentioned statement of Ilham Aliyev noting the following: “The visa regime between Iran and Azerbaijan has not been lifted; only some simplifications have been made in visa issuance process. This means that the Iranian citizens can get a visa through online application in the period of 3-4 working days by paying $20.”
To note, it is already a few years that Iran has unilaterally abolished the visa regime with Azerbaijan.
