Nagorno Karabakh people themselves must decide how to live – FM Nalbandian
“The proposals of the Co-Chairs state that the final status of Nagorno Karabakh must be determined through the free expression of the will of the NKR people and which must be legally binding on the international level. The international society claims that the Nagorno Karabakh people themselves must decide how to live and what fate to face. The NKR conflict is not a matter of territorial integrity but rather of human rights,” Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian noted the aforesaid in an interview with Deutsche Welle, Panorama.am reports.
“Azerbaijan presents the issue in that way. This is a matter of human rights, in particular the right of self-determination of the nations,” Nalbandian said.
Armenian FM noted that the NKR conflict differs from other conflicts in the international arena due to the fact that the U.S., Russia and France have developed common approaches on the conflict settlement and presented them to the sides of the conflict- Nagorno Karabakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“The approaches are included in the five statements released by the Co-chairing countries of the OSCE Mink Group. We (the Armenian side) have announced and continue to announce that we can reach the conflict settlement on the basis of those principles,” the FM said.
He went into the details adding that the heads of the countries have proposed to tackle the conflict based on the principles of self-determination and territorial integrity excluding the use of force.
