Donald Trump likely to be free of constraints and pronounce the “G word” – Turkologist
It is hard to make predictions, yet, it seems, Trump will likely avoid the use of the term “Armenian Genocide” in his statement to mark the Armenian Remembrance Day on April 24. On the other hand, his non-political past suggests he may overcome certain constraints and use the term, turkologist Ruben Melkonyan told Panorama.am, when asked to comment on the expectations from the new US President Donald Trump regarding the Armenian Genocide issue.
“Anyway, let us remember Donald Trump has taken the positions of the leader of the American State and on key matters acts not in his sole discretion, but in line with the state interests. Therefore, I think, the message will avoid endangering the Turkish – American relations, as envisaged by Realpolitik,” Melkonyan said, adding the U.S. is not interested in worsening relations with Turkey at this point.
