Armenia’s Special Investigative Service releases details on Azerbaijani apples smuggling
The criminal case launched into the smuggling of the Azerbaijani apples into Armenia and evasion of significant amount of taxes has been assigned to the inspector of Armenia’s Special Investigative Service (SIS) to conduct proceedings.
As the SIS told Panorama.am, prior to opening a criminal case, the officers revealed that two Armenian citizens identified as H, F. and A. E. illegally sold large amount of agricultural products at Yerevan sale points.
In order to smuggle the mentioned products through the Bagratashen Customs Checkpoint without declaring them and in this manner to avoid paying large sums in taxes prescribed by the law, the two individuals reached an initial agreement with the inhabitants of Bagratashen community of Armenia’s Tavush Province. The latter regularly smuggled a total of 33 tons of agricultural products that lacked declarations and transferred them to the individuals in exchange for relevant remuneration. The initial assessments show that the crime caused over 6.6 million AMD in pecuniary damage to the state.
The agricultural products were smuggled into Armenia without any obstacles, which has been assisted by the customs officers of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee.
Thus, the preliminary investigation of the criminal cases launched into the evasion of significant amount of taxes under Part 1 of Article 205 of the RA Criminal Code continues in Armenia’s Special Investigative Service.
Notice: The person suspected in or accused of an alleged crime shall be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code in accordance with the Court’s verdict made effective.
