Formation of new trigger points unacceptable, Armenia’s defense minister says
Modern challenges make different countries combine their efforts to resist efficiently, Armenia’s Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan said at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides on Monday. To note, Vigen Sargsyan is paying an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus.
In the minister’s words, the formation of new trigger points is unacceptable and may lead to unforeseen consequences. In this respect, Minister Sargsyan said, the combination of efforts and development of efficient dialogue of countries sharing common interest are quite actual.
Ioannis Kasoulides pointed the factor of the Armenian community, they had fully integrated into the social and political life of Cyprus, at the same time preserving its national identity.
Foreign Minister of Cyprus noted Minister Sargysan’s visit may provide new impetus to deepening of Armenian-Cypriot cooperation, namely in the defense sector.
As the RA defense ministry reports, the parties discussed the Artsakh and Cyprus issues during the talks. In Minister Kasoulides’s conviction, it is erroneous to draw parallels between these two issues, as unlike Northern Cyprus which has been occupied by Turkey, Artsakh is the historical land of Armenians, who have lived there for centuries, struggled for their security and ultimately declared independence.
