France welcomes every step aimed at continuing the dialogue over the Karabakh conflict - Ambassador
We welcome any steps aimed at continuing the dialogue on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, including at different levels - be that meetings of the heads of states, foreign ministers or representatives of the civil society, French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-François Charpentier told a press conference on Tuesday.
The Ambassador was asked to comment on the trilateral meeting of the religious leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia held in Moscow at the invitation of His Holiness Kirill I, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and whether Russia is trying to position itself as the main actor in the conflict settlement.
The Ambassador described Patriarch’s initiative as ‘excellent’ that could contribute to easing the tensions. “Not the initiator of the meeting but the conduct of the dialogue itself is of the utmost importance,” the French Ambassador stressed.
“One important idea that was highlighted by the both religious leaders at the meeting was that the Karabakh conflict is not a religious conflict but a matter of national importance which should be settled through a dialogue not military means,” the French diplomat added.
