“It seems quite strange to me that right after the Geneva talks the Azerbaijani side claimed maliciously I broke certain agreements. It is truly strange and I look forward to ask my counterpart what made them so angry,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated on Tuesday during remarks delivered at the National Defense Research University.

Sargsyan was referring to the Baku official comments following the Geneva summit and accusing the Armenian side for violating the agreement reached during the talks, specifically to make no statements on the summit outcomes other than on agreed points.

In the President’s word, the matter even looks stranger that the comments come from people who shouldn’t have been aware about the discussion held in a private format.

“If we had an agreement not to make a statement how his assistants or deputies learnt about it,” asked Sargsyan.

“At a meeting with the members of the Swiss-Armenian community I stated no Armenian leader can ever sign a document that would endanger the security of Nagorno Karabakh. Secondly, I stated that Karabakh cannot be within Azerbaijan, and the third – I said the president of Azerbaijan is also concerned about the safety of his soldiers and the deaths. Is there anything new in the above-said? I just reiterated what we have been telling for 20 year 25 years,” said the President.

Sargsyan added that the adopted statement in Geneva calling for easing the tension does not mean the Karabakh quest for freedom should be weakened.

“Once again, it seems bizarre to me. We never conducted acts of revenge and collective punishment, do not conduct and will never do, yet every military loss will receive a tit for tat response to the soldiers of the opposite side,” added Sargsyan.
