Analyst sees no political obstacle to signing Armenia-EU deal at Brussels summit

An Armenian political analyst predicted high chances for the signing of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Armenia and the European Union at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels on November 24, adding he sees no political obstacle to its signing.

“There are no obstacles in the document not only for Armenia, but also for Europe or Russia,” Director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan told a news conference on Tuesday,

The analyst cited the statement by Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, highlighting the deal is completely prepared for signing at the upcoming summit.

Armenia and the EU initiated the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement on 21 March, 2017. The new deal is set to strengthen the political dialogue between Armenia and the EU and set a solid basis for the continuation of economic and social reforms. Strong commitments to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law underpin the new agreement and Armenia-EU future cooperation.
