French embassy targeted in terror attack in Burkina Faso
The capital of Burkina Faso came under multiple attacks on Friday which targeted the French embassy and the country's military headquarters, The Local reported.
Four assailants were killed when they attacked the French embassy in the Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou, while the country's military headquarters was also targeted, the government said.
The French embassy in Ougadougou initially published a message on Facebook that read: "Attack is ongoing at the French embassy and French Institute." The message was then taken down from Facebook and replaced by a message that read: "Attack underway in Ougadougou. Stay indoors. It is not certain at this stage which places have been targeted."
BBC reports, it is unclear who is behind the violence but Burkina Faso Information Minister Remis Fulgance Dandjinou told state TV the attack had "strong overtones of terrorism".
Reuters quoted him as saying that two police officers had been killed and a total of 50 people wounded. One TV report spoke of seven deaths among the security forces but this has not been confirmed.
