Catholicos Karekin II to attend unveiling of St. Gregory of Narek statue in the Vatican
At the invitation of Pope Francis, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II is leaving for the Vatican today to attend the inaugural ceremony of the bronze statue of Saint Gregory of Narek, a 10th century prominent Armenian poet, monk, philosopher and theologian, the press service of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin reported.
During his visit, Catholicons Karekin II will be accompanied by His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern); His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin; Father Shahe Ananyan, Director of the Ecumenical Relations Department of the Mother See; and Father Vahram Melikyan, Director of the Information Services Department of the Mother See.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, are also expected to attend the official unveiling ceremony of the statue scheduled for April 5.
