Armenian president holds phone conversation with CoE secretary general

President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, the presidential office informed Panorama.am.

The two officials discussed the domestic political situation in Armenia, attaching importance to settling the issue through a constructive dialogue in the framework of the Constitution and legislation.

President Sarkissian highly appreciated the CoE’s support to the reforms in Armenia and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the principles of democracy and the rule of law.

Mr. Jagland, in his turn, underlined the Council of Europe's readiness to further support Armenia in its path to democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

President Sarkissian invited the CoE secretary general to visit Armenia whenever he finds it convenient.
