Armenia’s social and labor minister quits amid disagreements with new government

Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mane Tandilyan has announced her decision to step down.

In a post on Facebook, she cites the differences between her and the new Armenian government over the funded pension system.

The Armenian Cabinet adopted a decision on Tuesday to apply the mandatory component of the funded pension system.

When taking the minister’s position, Tandilyan spoke in favor of postponing the introduction of the mandatory funded system for one year to find a more favorable solution through public discussions.

“That road was also full of challenges, but I expressed readiness to initiate that process by carrying out large-scale work with the different layers of society to find the best and most acceptable solution for the public,” she said.

“After lengthy discussions it turned out that my proposal lacks the government’s support. Instead, a different proposal was submitted to the government to be approved at its session,” Tandilyan detailed.

She wished ‘success and farsightedness’ to the new Armenian government for the benefit of democratic Armenia.

Tandilyan also unveiled her decision to quit the Lusavor Hayastan (Bright Armenia) party.
