More than 1,000 women killed in three years in Turkey
Some 1,000 women were killed in Turkey in 2016-2018, marking one of the highest femicide figures in recent years, according to the report released by Equal Rights for Men and Women Commission.
Ermenihaber reports, that in addition to the high rate of femicide, 342 women were subjected to sexual assault over the indicated period.
The data provided by the women right watchdogs operating in the country have considered only numbers reported in media and other open sources.
Violence against women and femicides continue to be major problems in Turkey, with statistics showing that current preventive measures are far from sufficient.
It is also noted that most women subjected to violence, harassment or threats before being killed.
