Christian Democratic Revival Party leader, political analyst Levon Shirinyan has expressed gratitude to all Armenian citizens in spite of the fact they have or haven’t voted for his party at Sunday’s early parliamentary elections, unveiling the party’s plans to continue serving as an alternative political force. 

“I have made this clear; I don’t need your votes. I haven’t begged for votes. I think we have sown seeds of success in the society. We shall continue our activities as an alternative force,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.

“We have no plans to serve as an extra-parliamentary opposition; we shall provide economic and political concepts, cultural highs, school reconstruction. We will continue our work but won’t be a street opposition,” he said.

Shirinyan believes the Bright Armenia party that won over 6 percent of the vote, cannot serve as an opposition in the new parliament since it follows almost the same values as Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s My Step bloc that scored a landslide victory in the elections with over 70 percent of the vote.

According to him, the Prosperous Armenia Party that garnered over 8 percent of the vote, can assume the role of the opposition in the new parliament.

The analyst stressed the public vote has shaped an overloaded parliament where Pashinyan has not only the absolute majority but also will work with its close ally – Bright Armenia.

Shirinyan next announced that his party members revealed a case when the ballot paper of the Christian Democratic party was missing from the other forces’ ballot papers at the December 9 elections. He says the party hasn’t reported the police on the incident ‘not to spoil people's mood’. He also pointed to another incident when over 60 votes for their party from three polling stations got lost before reaching the Central Electoral Commission.
