Court hearing on Kocharyan’s appeal over arrest extension to continue tomorrow
The member of Armenia’s ex-president Robert Kocharyan’s defense team Hayk Alumyan says he was able to present only 40 per cent of the appeal case during the court hearing on Thursday against the ruling of a lower court to extend his arrest.
As Alumyan told reporters, hearing lasted for 6 hours and will continue tomorrow, on April 5, when the defense team will have the chance to present objections to prosecutors’ appeal.
Alumyan informed earlier that prosecutors had earlier appealed the court to dismiss the hearing of the case brought by the defense team which was not envisaged by the legislation.
“I will continue presenting the appeal case which will be followed by three other complaints prepared by the defense team. After it we will present objections about the prosecutors appeal, while the prosecutors will present their own objections to our case,” Alumyan said, adding at the end of the court procedure Kocharyan may want to make statements and comments.
Asked about reports that ex-President Kocharyan is involved in reading while in detention, Alumyan said: “I checked that he finished yesterday Francis Fukuyama’s “Identity” and started “Leadership” by Symons in English.”
