Famous film director Giorgi Danelia dies at 88
Giorgi Danelia, Georgian-Russian film director and screenwriter, who was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1989, died at the age of 88 after long illness.
As Georgian sources report, at the end of February Danelia was placed in one of the hospitals of Moscow with pneumonia diagnosis.
Giorgi Danelia was born on 25 August 1930 in Tbilisi. A year later, the family moved to Moscow. In the 50s of the last century, Giorgi Danelia graduated from the Moscow Architecture Institute and worked as an architect.
In 1959, after graduating from the Higher Director’s Course, he started work as a director in film Studio. His career as film director started in the 1960s.
