Israel calls for measures to end Turkey’s 'subversion’ in east Jerusalem
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has called on the ministry to formulate a package of measures, which will effectively “stop Turkey’s incitement and subversion in East Jerusalem,” the Jerusalem Post reported on Monday. The foreign minister took to Twitter to announce the move, which is part of a plan to curb attempts by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to pour money into the east Jerusalem to gain influence there, it said.
Erdogan is a fierce critic of Israel and a vocal supporter of Palestinians. Under his leadership, Turkey has been investing heavily in the Palestinian Authority, with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) having completed more than 600 projects in Palestine since 2005.
It is reported that as of July 2018, the agency had built six schools in Palestine, restored nine and provided equipment to another 20.
