Georgia's parliament approves new PM, cabinet
Georgia's parliament on Sunday voted to approve a new cabinet led by Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Xinhua reported.
During a special session, the lawmakers of the Georgian parliament confirmed the new prime minister and cabinet with 98 votes in favor and zero against.
Lawmakers from the United National Movement party, European Georgia party and Alliance of Patriots of Georgia party boycotted the voting.
"Doing the job is the main task of the new government. We will do our best to provide the citizens with concrete achievements in the near future," Gakharia said to local media after the voting.
The Georgian ruling party nominated Gakharia to take up premiership on Sept. 3, following Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze's resignation on Sept. 2.
According to the Georgian constitution, the new prime minister needs to secure a minimum of 76 votes in the parliament for his cabinet to be approved.
