‘No painful surprises expected’: Defense minister on possible military dismissals
Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan denies allegations about the dismissals of high-ranking officers of the Defense Ministry.
The minister reflected on the activities of a parliamentary commission looking into the circumstances of the 2016 April War unleashed against Artsakh by Azerbaijan.
Asked to comment on media reports alleging dismissals are expected at his ministry in the wake of the probe, he said: “The commission will finish its work and we will see. We will make decisions based on the outcomes [of the investigation].”
He described the commission’s work as effective, adding the information provided to them from time to time will be sufficient to draw conclusions. “No painful surprises are expected,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tonoyan did not rule out the launch of criminal cases based on the commission’s findings. “Everything is possible, but I cannot evaluate the work of the commission at this stage. The commission's job is not to open a criminal case or not,” he said.
